Evaluation

  • In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media Product challenges conventions because the idea we had for our film was one we had never seen before, during our extensive research we looked through many different genres of films and we came to the conclusion that it was in fact a good genre to look, we took our inspiration from 1984 a film dramatized from the George Orwell book, which was based on a government keeping the masses in-impoverishment, leading to a revolution to overthrow the government. We decided to add the Nazis as its a period of history that was rarely touched when it comes to an change in history.
It also challenges conventions as the Ident used in the trailer is a none moving ident, this challenges the conventions as predominantly the idents move. It develop conventions of a trailer as it sticks to the same format of having a beginning, middle and end which is shown by moving the storyline on as the trailer progresses through the trailer, which is clearly shown as different series of events take place during the trailer. The trailer develops conventions of trailers as it finishes on a cliffhanger as it goes to a blank screen then a gunshot which makes the audience want more as they want to see what the ending really is.

  •   How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I think the effectiveness of the ancillary tasks is good as there is a reminder on all texts that they are all related to the same film, such as the text used on all products are the same font and colour, also the tagline appears on all the texts 'will it be the last' this was choosen because it adds a sense of mystery towards the film as the cliffhanger on the trailer it makes you wonder what the ending actually is. Also there is a convergence as even the pictures on the posters and magazine shows the same costume used throughout the trailer. In ways the werent effective you could say the fact that the shots were never taken from actual footage from the trailer it was always a staged photo, however from our research very little shots are actually used on the posters and magazines that appear in the trailer. Here are the the final products I made.

  • What have your learnt from your audience feedback?
From our audience feed back I have learned that the audience that our film would appeal to the most would be a male teen audience this is because we asked an age range from year 8 to year 12 and the feed back we got was this:
From this group we found that they Liked the trailer on the whole, there favourite parts were the sound effects, Music, The Acting and the overall good quality of the trailer.
From this

group we found that they didnt really like this it was a group mainly of girls who it never really appealed to their audience however they did like some bits of the trailer such as the Over the shoulder shot, i think this nieche audience didnt like this as they are also to young compared to the audience that we aimed at
this group owe saw that they liked the trailer as it was a different genre of film, than what they are used to. They enjoyed the trailer because the acting and edits were good on the trailer also the sound track was well suited to the trailer.

  •   How did you use new technologies in the construction and  research, planning and evaluation stage?
During the Construction stage of making the products i used a number of new products such as iMovie-To construct our trailer by adding effects transitions and soundtracks to make our trailer.
Photoshop- We used Photoshop to create the magazine covers and film posters. by editing pictures to create a suitable poster for my film.
